Neal Project - Part 1

This project is very much close to the heart obvious reasons. Being able to finally build something for his parents, Daniel was enthralled to begin tearing the yard apart! As you can see in the photos below, the hillside located above the house brings down a lot of water that would cause puddling and moss accumulation instead of growing grass. The main objective was to eliminate as much water retention as possible, while also beautifying the rest of the yard with several walls to create more usable space, as well as adding plants to bring more of a rustic colorful theme to the area. Instead of boring you with a long paragraph of what we did, here is a list of all the upgrades we made to the property which you can see in the photos below:

  • Removed all turf areas to the front and back yard, then graded the yard to aid in moving the water away from the problem areas.

  • Installed a French drain to the base of the rear hillside and ran it along the perimeter of the yard to a large drainage pit away from the usable yard space.

  • Installed new step treads to lead from the front steps to the backyard.

  • Installed two boulder walls - one to the rear hillside and one to the front hillside near the driveway - to create more usable space.

  • Installed a natural sandstone patio to the area directly at the top of the newly installed step treads.

  • Installed Bluegrass/Fescue mixed sod to help with the variable sun/shade of the property.

  • Installed a select variety of plant material to help add four seasons worth of interest.
